Antique Half-Trunk C. 1880
Some call them "Half-Trunks", some call them "Hat-Trunks". Before the restoration work began on this one, there were large "C" shaped wire struts attached on the inside at each side of the trunk that would fold up or down, which would support a large hat being suspended in the center of the piece. Or, possibly, a large "disco" style ball. We're not aware of disco being the craze back in the 1880's so our vote goes to calling this a "Hat Trunk". Recovered in Kelly green 100% canvas duck, binding of tan deerskin leather, original solid brass Eagle working lock and key, natural butter-smooth oak slats and fancy cast original hardware. A trunk so versatile that once you place this as a centerpiece in your home, you may want to put on your best hat, and start dancing.
