Antique Bridal Trunk
The previews are over, time for the main event! This is the trunk you have been waiting for. An amazing ladies bridal trunk made by MM Secor and The Great Northwestern Trunk & Traveling Bag Manufactory. At 32" long, 23" wide and 30" high it is almost as high as it is long. It was originally covered with leather, and the now polished brass double latch lock was originally nickel plated (key included). That was as expensive as it got. The interior is completely original, (The inside bottom has been relined) and there are numerous compartments including two secret compartments under each fall in tray that can only be accessed by dropping the trays first. Pretty cool. The exterior is covered with loads of cast iron slat clamps, corner protectors, shoulders, and latches. All of this comes at a price as this trunk weighs in at 100.5 pounds, empty! The handles are massive, and I made them identical to the ones that were on the trunk. They measure just under 1/2", twice the thickness of regular handles. Another neat feature of this trunk is the tray stay. It is nothing more than a tray hook attached to the bottom of the tray with a piece of woven cloth (just like a lid stay), and goes into a hole that was punched into the valance. Romadka Bros actually patented something just like this (maybe this is their patent) on Aug 24 1875.
