The Fifth Wall ~ Saturday’s “Designing with Vintage” with Gail Smith-Peterson
If you think about it, we do look up quite a bit. When were lounging around, laying in bed, soaking in the tub we are paying attention to the ceiling. I do consider the ceiling as the fifth wall. Well thought out design is accentuated in the details, so if you forget the ceiling well...not so great. The ceiling is the crowning touch to a room. This barrel brick and beam ceiling is gorgeous. A curve like this has to be planned well in advance.
Another curved ceiling made with tongue and groove wood.
Crisp and modern moldings set the theme of the space.
Vintage reclaimed beams in this kitchen unify all the texture and wood elements.
Beam and plank ceilings are so cozy and versatile.
A commercial space adds vintage character and charm with old shutters for the ceiling treatment.
I am loving these last two. The post and beam is stunning and the details of the boxes are really exquisite.
My design tip: The fifth wall is a significant design detail. Consider the design style of the entire home when selecting your finish detail.
Just for fun, I have a tiny bit of homework for you... Starting this weekend, look up and notice the ceiling details where ever you go!
Have a gorgeous weekend.
