Romantic Vintage Shades
One of a kind shades can transform any piece of lighting. I’ve been making my own for years with vintage skeleton shades. They’re always on my vintage shopping radar.  Shades are a fun DIY project. Easy to change out with another idea, really simple and fun. I hope you will try some for your home.

My Design tip: When you’re out and about or here on SSO look for cool shaped shades. Buy them, you’ll be surprised how much fun it is to design your own by embellishing it with trimmings.

 A beautiful weekend to you,

Storage for 2015

We will all be packing away our holiday decorations and accouterments this week. With 2015 around the corner it’s time to freshen up and edit our spaces for enjoying the calm & cozy winter days. It’s the perfect time to re-think ordinary storage. Utilizing vintage items for storage is a cool way to incorporate a solution into your decor. Shop our Antique and Vintage Baskets + Utility and Storage selection.

I have several vintage suitcases that I stack. They are pure storage. Each one stores holiday contents inside and marked by little tags I made. They can be moved anywhere, and used for anything you like to keep readily available. The wall of suitcases is a really cool idea too.

Vintage crates, wooden boxes, trunks, metal baskets, lockers and large basket trunks. Adding some wheels is also a smart idea if the contents is heavy. Any of these would be great to use.

My design tip: Storage is essential for everyone. If your going to buy something, think outside the box and find something antique or vintage that adds character to your space.

Let’s savor these last days of the season, as we begin to prepare for an exciting New Year.

Gail

Christmas at Home
Gathering at home for Christmas is where some of the fondest memories begin. Decorating our home with evergreens bring in the wonderful scent of Christmas all through the season, it’s lovely to see our favorite treasured ornaments go up on the tree and tucked into places here and there. Relaxing in a cozy corner and wrapping gifts with a personal touch by the fire. Entertaining always make Christmas at home special.  A little peak into our home this Christmas.

What a beautiful sight, I believe do you?

My design tip: For Christmas I only have one tip. Decorate your home with what you love. Those pieces that hold your fondest memories.
My wishes for a heartfelt Christmas with family, friends and the memories that you hold most dear.

Dedicated to the decoration and Northern Nordic way of life. It is a delight to visit this home dressed for the Christmas holidays in a white environment and subtle fine notes of red and cozy hospitality. Julia, iexplains her 5 principal recommendations for a simple effective decoration in Christmas: to use crowns in doors and windows, the smell of Christmas sweets newly baked, flowers of the season, to take care of the decoration of the kitchen  by creating wonderful cuisines and to fill the house of big hung stars on walls and ceilings.

Enjoy the Season.

Beginning the Holidays with Evergreens

It’s official, we’re off to begin the holidays. This morning I officially began with evergreens. Each year I anticipate the smell of Christmas, it truly inspires me. I came home with wonderful fragrant pine wreaths, over a hundred feet of fresh mixed pine garland for our mantles, headboards and doorways. It’s amazing just having them in my truck made me happy, I really am thrilled with these simple beautiful gifts of nature draped around our home nothing says welcome to the holidays better besides fresh baked cookies!

Use these fabulous Vintage European Grain Sacks from second Shout Out - ships from Italy

Use these wonderful 1940s jars found in italy for place evergreens around your home

My design tip: Whatever size or style your space is, evergreens are beautiful on their own.

Enjoy every moment this season has to offer.

Blessings at Thanksgiving
Gathering on Thanksgiving is special in so many ways. We all have memories of our favorite Thanksgivings. Growing up my family was large, lots of relatives. I remember loving the elbow to elbow seating at the dinner table, squeezing everyone together and saving room in case for one more. Cozy and intimate with loved ones are the memories we create.

Simple touches of nature, vintage dish ware, the love of family and friends elbow to elbow at your table is what I hope for you this Thanksgiving.

My design tip: Set your table and place around your home those things that hold meaning, bring a smile and warm your heart.

 Blessings xo,
