The Coveted Collection
Where do the things we collect end up?  It’s pretty rare we find a heart shaped rock on a hike, or a perfect sand dollar washed in from the sea.  Those are moments we covet. Do you set them on the mantle until it’s cleaning day, then lay them in a drawer never to be seen again until you move? Here’s some cool display ideas I curated that might inspire you to keep collecting and cherish those precious finds.

My design tip: Collections can be mixing two things together, for example the vintage wood shelves with items from the sea.

Enjoy a beautiful weekend,

Green living spaces
Living with greenery indoors beautifies a space and is super beneficial to our health. Foliage purify’s the air by giving off oxygen. Just that touch of green makes the space seems alive. Green has been on my mind, maybe because it’s almost Saint Patrick’s day. I’ve curated these inspiring spaces for you.

A fun little vintage slip for something green on Saint Patricks Day.

My design tip: Rotate your plants by changing the container, using them in a different room depending on the light required keeps them fresh.

A beautiful weekend to you & Happy Saint Patrick’s Day on the 17th.

How to take simple collections, curate them into lovely art.
If your a vintage collector you must have some gorgeous items. The loveliest part of collecting is having them out where we can enjoy and share them. It’s easy to to do. First cultivate your collections together. Then stack them, hang them on the wall, or display them on shelves, table tops or in cool open or glass cabinets.  See what fits your space best and what shows your creative style. Get inspired to see them as art and you will fall in love with them all over again.

My design tip: Spread your collections through out your spaces. Curate one of kind or theme, see them as your artistic collections of art.
Enjoy a beautiful weekend and starting Sunday one more hour of sunshine!

Window coverings you can make

There are vintage textiles just waiting for a second chance to be designed into beautiful couture window coverings. At Second Shout Out we have some beautiful Antique French Textiles. If you have a little bit of sewing skills or your favorite Auntie has some then your set.  Add some vintage jewelry for trim if you want some sparkle. Maybe these ideas I curated for you will have you running for the scissors, remember don’t run with them!

My design tip: Keep your eye out for vintage textiles, lace and trims. The only way to get something one of a kind is to use vintage pieces.
Have a beautiful weekend.

Vintage Valentine

Gourmet artisan chocolate and beautiful flowers are the go to for Valentines. They are lovely. How about something that your valentine might not expect this year. Something unique just tike them. Letters that spell out their name or a word, perhaps a heart shape made from something vintage and cool.  Or a gorgeous vintage ring box with a little note that you will shop for the bauble together. Anything is possible and it’s cool to think outside the box for something special.

A beautiful weekend to you,

My design tip: Valentines is about romance and friendship. Making your special someone indeed the recipient of something you intended just for them.

Spaces to inspire.

Today’s creative spaces take on the individuality of the artist. It’s a personal space with items gathered to inspire and to promote creative energy. I love seeing the imagination through the spaces.  Everyone needs a place to refuel, relax and let the artisan emerge.

My design tip: When it comes to personalizing spaces, bring vintage pieces in you love. It’s your space and should be all you dream of.
A beautiful last weekend of January to you,

Holding Laundry Court
Everyday chores especially laundry, can become dreaded. It’s how you look at it that can be inspiring and even chic. There isn’t anything that smells as incredible and feels so fresh than linens air dried in the sun by a gentle breeze. This first picture from the 40’s in New Jersey is classic!

Vintage clothes pins and Ironing boards are great utilitarian finds.

A vintage dolls house finds it’s been up cycled as storage in a laundry room.

Neatly folded linens to me are a source of practical beauty.

This clothes line is dreamy, made with vintage architectural brackets.

Large Industrial Laundry Bin

Vintage Allied Products Metal Wire Folding Laundry Basket

Hungarian Wicker Laundry Basket

My design tip:  Laundry chores are here to stay so creating a space in which you hold laundry court lovely is a priority.

A beautiful weekend to you,

Winters Beautiful Light
The last few years I have been trying to take notice of each season’s natural light. I try to see if I’m able to guess what time of year it is with out a calendar.
A fun challenge, especially on the west coast! I have come to the lovely little conclusion that it’s winter’s beautiful light I love most. The way it warms a chilly room is gorgeous.

My design tip: Use light to cast a space by opening curtains and move your pieces around to catch the light of the particular season.
Wishing you a beautiful winter weekend.
