Storage ideas for Silverware

Silver flatware is beautiful, the patterns range from simple to ornate. There is something extra special about a meal with silver utensils. What if using silver more often actually was beneficial in maintaining it’s elegant polish. Gently hand wash and dry it’s a must, it helps to eliminate the amount of harsh chemicals needed to keep them polished. Tarnish occurs when silver is exposed to air for long periods of non-use.

Here is a very cool vintage commercial size and heavy industrial bread/loaf pan that you can use for silverware found at Omero Home

I believe these beautiful pieces are meant to be used. I like to store a few pieces in this white wood box in the kitchen. Larger sets are in silver cloth. This box gets a lot of attention; guests ask what’s in the white box? Sometimes I’ll hide a special piece of chocolate in it for later!

These wood pieces would make great storage for silver.

My design tip:
Look for something vintage with character, change the knobs if you like and line with silver felt.
A beautiful summer weekend to you, dine with silver!

Beach Huts
Tiny little huts to change into your swimsuit, how practical and vintage chic. I imagine them to be charming inside with a bench and some hooks. Weathered wooden doors that creak from the salty air, a sound you will recall every time you see a tiny hut.

With our last few weeks of summer I hope you find the perfect place to play, make S’mores and tell fantastic stories while watching the sun go down.

My design tip: Add some weathered painted wood to your garden shed, hang some hooks or cleats for towels and suits.

A beautiful weekend to you,
xo,

Summer Blues
Just about every activity we enjoy in summer connects us with water. The color of water is ever changing, its beauty appears in many shades of blue. Bringing those familiar colors into our interiors and exteriors adds a relaxing effect.

The many shades of blue are gorgeous and limitless, as seen in the sea.

Depending on the light, blues go into subtle shades. Blues make us feel are welcome.

Darker blues on exteriors are classic and elegant.

My Design tip:  Blues are timeless all year long. Find your perfect shade and soon you’ll be drawn to object with that shade.

A beautiful summer weekend to you,

7 Ideas for Throwing a Casual Party

Beautiful weather, longer days and schools out. It’s the perfect time to gather some vintage accessories & throw a party out doors or inside. Round up the kids, friends or family to help. Making it easy, casual and fun will take the pressure of ironing the tablecloths and white gloving the house! If you have summer house guests, invite them to join you in the planning. Delegate to do’s!

Let’s be inspired to gather, tell stories and enjoy all that summer has to offer.

My design tip: Pull out old blankets, quilts, pillows, drop clothes, these items will make seating cozy and can be used for table coverings.
Throw a party just because….

Black & White Design
Design with a Black and White aesthetic is unique.  Amazingly checks all the right boxes. It’s casual, chic, classy, cool, comfy, crisp, elegant & timeless, from exterior shops to houses. Unforgettable spaces can be centered on only two colors.

Adding character to spaces with black or white wood pieces.

A child’s room is calming, cozy and playful with just the right elements and textures of black and white.

Our fashion and Design world will always be at the helm with Black and White.

My design tip: Give a black and white space warmth with vintage materials, nothing too shiny, textures and softness.

Enjoy your summer weekend.

Four Season Porches
Summers can be extended most of the year with a four season porch. Depending on your location, insulation and materials.  A porch can be just as inviting in the winter.  Create a welcoming ambiance with vintage furnishings, seasonal accessories that will extend your use of a cozy space. Some possibilities to inspire with.

My design tip: Add furnishings that are easy to move around for entertaining and cleaning after each season.

Enjoy this beautiful weekend.

Linen
Cool, crisp or fresh off the clothesline. Linen has to be a favorite summer textile. It flows elegantly and it’s purely timeless. Linen can be dyed, monogrammed, pleated and embellishment beautifully. Vintage linen is in a elite category of it’s own, especially European. The weave and weight of linen varies as well. This summer let’s usher in some linen to our summer homes, I think you will fall in love with this elegant classic.

POPS
Home is his Castle. Home is where he can put his feet up, home is where he can be himself. Home is where his heart is too. The Dad’s don’t really ask for much they just want to be appreciated and thought of. Here’s some inspiration for that special space they may be dreaming of. Let’s keep them happy.

Here’s to all the POPS.

Happy Weekend, Happy Life

My design tip: Utilizing old baseball gloves, trophy’s or any memorabilia in his spaces along with photos of him is a personal and meaningful touch.

Summer
Schools out!  At our home, it’s officially summer when the last day of school has ended. My favorite memories are of summers at the lake house.  Accessorizing our homes for summer is fun isn’t it? I love to see patriotic items scattered around the house. Warmer evenings tempting us to slice up a big juicy watermelon and make smores. Let’s get our interiors feeling like summer.

My design tip: Bringing out the Patriotic accessories now you will be all ready for 4th of July.

Take your shoes off, throw on a straw hat and enjoy the weekend.

Vintage Flatware

The most traditional month for weddings is June. Couples will be choosing the special gifts they hope to stock their new homes with. In the past picking a silver pattern that could be added to over the years was a tradition. A lovely idea if the budget allows. For today’s weddings there might not be a budget for those beautiful gifts. Something more practical may need to be put into the mix instead. However vintage flatware is a perfect option. Sign up for Second Shout Out's Wedding + Gft Registry, make you gifts special with one of a kind items.

This first photo of heirloom pieces are from my family, I have sets that I mix together and I love finding vintage pieces as well. Some are over 100 years old.

Above - A set of 3 small sugar spoons with initial “B” for Bride (found at Second Shout Out), would be a sweet token for the bride to give to her maidens.

Above you can find these wonderful mixed vintage flatware sets at Second Shout Out.

Above this wonderful Industrial Loft Pan can be used for your silverware - found at Second Shout Out

Patterns can be classic, English, French, Victorian, Deco, Modern etc. I love the horned handles mixed in too. Gorgeous vintage pieces more then you could dream of.  Mix and match them. Already monogramed in every combination imaginable. Here’s my idea, it would be fun for the wedding couple to decide on the initials and style and let the guests find what they would love to gift them.  A special surprise to cherish, also a wonderful memory for the presenter to share the story with the couple where and how they found the pieces.

My design tip: The Groom and Brides families could pass on silver from each side. It’s a wonderful keepsake for the new couple to cherish and then pass on to their future children someday.

Let’s have a beautiful first weekend of June everyone.
